Rhiannon O'Leary is a 17 year old student from Dublin her talk is about learning to love being Irish through learning English in school and about the mistreatment of Irish culture and identity in Irish schools. Rhiannon is a 16 year old student in 5th year at Newpark Comprehensive School, Blackrock. Throughout her time at school, English class and in the school’s theatre is where Rhiannon’s always felt most at home, driven and happy; not in the Irish classrooms. Her talk focus on how her connection to the Irish experience comes from the nations’ stories, how she believes literature is a more accessible and often unsung access to Irish culture. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
