Smartphones: The Dictators in Our Pockets.
Tara Dempsey is a 18 year old student from Dublin. Her talk is about the power of smartphones on our behaviour and how we can use them as a tool for positive change. Tara Dempsey (18), a 6th year pupil of Temple Carrig School, Greystones, is naturally curious and has thoroughly enjoyed studying Politics and Society, which has encouraged her to think critically about everything and question the world around her igniting an interest in media consumption and its effects on our society. Frightened by the lack of education surrounding the topic, Tara hopes to inspire people to think before they scroll! Tara, an avid playwright and actor, enjoys public speaking and a good debate. Having written and staged her own original play she has achieved many awards as part of her school’s Model UN programme. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
